Isa

It was January 17th 2019, somewhere in the evening. I was just getting ready for bed when I receive a message form Niels. He informs me that his wife Mandy was just admitted to the Sehos (Sint Elisabeth Hospitaal, Curacao) at 23:30 hours. She is experiencing minor contractions and her water broke. They want to keep her over night to monitor her and the baby. Niels tells me that he is on his way home and we both wait for more information…

It was an uneventful night. No phone calls so I slept peacefully…

Then on the next day, Friday morning the phone rings at 6.26 AM. Niels tells me that he has just returned to the hospital. Mandy’s contractions have become a lot more intense and she has about 8-9 cm dilation! What??? I jump out of bed, get ready, grab my camera bag and make my way to the the hospital.

While I walk into the delivery room (and secretly I am hoping that I haven’t missed anything!) I see that they are almost ready. Mandy can almost start pushing so I make sure that I keep my camera ready. I shoot my first photo at 7:08 AM …

And then it goes fast. Mandy is given the green light and off she goes! I try to take as many photos as possible. Less than fifteen minutes later, the big moment has arrived and baby Isa is born! Pabien and bonbini little lady!

I must honestly say that this is (for me) a dream birth! Within an hour after I arrived, the baby is already born, an absolute personal record;) I stay with newborn daddy Niels and mama Mandy and take pictures of the first time breast feeding and the first moments of baby Isa in daddy’s arms.

After a little while they go from the delivery room to the general room. Luckily it’s quiet so we don’t disturb anyone. And then the much anticipated phone calls to their respective families in the Netherlands. The first call Mandy places is to her sister Daisy. Not only to say that she just became an aunt, but especially to say that little Isa’s second name is Daisy. And then the lucky tears flow back and forth! Beautiful to see. And my favourite photo from the series!

Then I leave Mandy and Niels on their pink baby cloud and I silently sneak out of the room …
